2018 BELMA Newsletter No 6

BELMA Newsletter 2018 No 6 - BELMA 2018 - The shortlist

Shortlist published - visit the BELMA website

Dear colleague,

In August, the BELMA jury meets for the final rounds of evaluations. It will be hard work for the eight international jury members because the BELMA competition saw a record number of entries in 2018.

As a consequence, the shortlist contains more than 30 titles. But even the titles that did not make it to the shortlist were in many cases exceptional. The decision making process will be tough. Heated discussions are expected.

As usual, the chairman of the jury, Jean-Claude Lasnier, will inform the publishing houses with the winning entries at the end of August. This year, for the first time, we will also inform the shortlisted ones if they are not amongst the final winners. But, the publishing houses will only learn that their entry is a winner, not whether they will receive a gold, silver or bronze award or the special award of the jury. This will be a well kept secret until October 10th.

This year, there was a very even distribution in categories 1 - 3 with only category 4 lagging a little behind in the number of entries. Most entries consist of a mix of media, print, online, apps, but there were also some really interesting novelty entries especially in the print section. So, if you want to find out more about the products and the winners, come and join us in Frankfurt at the award ceremony in October.

Save the date and place:
Frankfurt Book Fair, October 10th, 4.30 pm in hall 4.2.

And as always: Don't hesitate to write if you have any questions.

Jean-Claude
