BELMA 2021 - Newsletter No 5
The registration for the 2021 BELMA ended a month ago and the jury has settled down to evaluate the great products that have been submitted.
At BELMA, we are very happy that so many of you publishers have submitted your products - we are exactly at the same level of submissions as in 2018, missing the all-time peak of 2019 by just a few titles. We all understand how difficult it was and is to cope with the new situation of having to help teachers and student even more during the pandemic and how this has slowed down development in many cases.
It is therefore great to see how many of the authors, editors and production people have adapted so quickly. Almost all the titles that you have submitted contain digital elements. Platforms can be accessed more smoothly, fantastic new features are integrated into all categories. It is also encouraging to see how much more learner centered the products are becoming and how much more is done in differentiation and individualization.
We are hoping to publish the shortlist by the end of August and from then onwards until the middle of October, we will feature the shortlisted titles in random order on our BELMA-, Facebook- and LinkedIn-pages.
All of us had hoped that we could reconnect in person at the BELMA prize giving ceremony, but unfortunately, for the second year running, we won't be able to have a physical event at the Frankfurt Bookfair. Events on stages will not take place this year, but we hope that you will all participate in the online prize giving on Wednesday 20th October at 16.00 CEST on Zoom.
In the meantime, we hope that you are enjoying the summer. And if you find yourself in nice surroundings, you might find an opportunity to raise a glass to the jury who are currently deep in the first evaluation stage.
All the best,
Chairman of the BELMA jury
Director of EEPG
